Cleaning (Oral Prophylaxis)
Dental cleaning is a preventive procedure. Typically, this is for those who regularly visit the dentist and who do not have much build up of calculus and stain. If a patient has had a significant time lapse between visits, or if they tend to build up excessive amounts of calculus or stain, periodontal therapy may be needed.
Periodontal Maintenance & Care
Unhealthy gums are a red flag warning of future tooth loss and in some instances potential stroke and heart disease. Our office offers several advanced treatments for gum disease without surgery, including scaling and root planing.
After periodontal therapy, a patient is usually seen for maintenance visits (similar to cleanings) on a more frequent schedule than the routine dental patient. Typically, periodontal patients are seen 3-4 times a year. Patients treated for advanced periodontal disease will often alternate their maintenance visits with our office and the periodontist.
Sealants are plastic resin materials that are applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth. This preventative measure seals out plaque and food from the grooves in the teeth which are prime targets for decay.
Root Canal Therapy
When the pulp (nerve and blood supply) of the tooth becomes infected, it can not repair itself. Historically, the only option was an extraction. Today, through root-canal therapy (endodontics), these teeth can frequently be saved. Our office provides root-canal therapy on both interior and posterior teeth. Most of the time this is completed in a single visit.
Minor cavities are restored with a tooth-colored, composite resin material. No mercury is used. The tooth-colored fillings are a great way to correct small problems and are cosmetically pleasing.
Extractions are necessary when a tooth cannot be saved or when it must be removed for another reason such as orthodontics. Many extractions can be done in our office, but more complicated ones are referred to an oral surgeon.
When a tooth is fractured, badly decayed or broken down, the best option is to restore it with a crown (cap). A crown is typically fabricated with porcelain (tooth-colored material) and completely covers the tooth.
Porcelain Laminate Veneers
Veneers provide the best possible look for your smile. They fit over your teeth like protective shields to give your smile a smooth, beautiful and natural appearance. They can also correct chips, close gaps and straighten misaligned teeth.
A porcelain laminate veneer is a thin porcelain facing that can be bonded to a tooth to change the color, shape or alignment. This is a wonderful cosmetic enhancement to your smile.
The appearance of certain malformed or broken teeth can be amazingly improved by bonding, which is the process of applying, shaping and then curing a thin layer of composite resin to the tooth surface.
Bridges are used to replace single or multiple missing teeth. They are cemented in place and are an option to a removable partial denture.
Dentures are chosen when too many teeth are missing to restore functional dentition, such as chewing.
Dental implants are a great way to replace a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Dental implants are the tooth replacement option most like your natural teeth. Implanted into your jawbone, these tooth replacements are attractive, easy to care for, fully functional, and capable of lasting a lifetime.
If you are tired of a denture or partial denture that moves and rocks, implants can be used to attach to your denture or partial, to give them more stability and security when you eat, talk and smile.
